Thanks to all for great achievements, and a Happy New Year

We did it again!

The number of registrations in SITS increased by 40% in 2009 compared to 2008. In 2010,  we added another 38% compared to 2009.  Data from over 12,600 patients were entered during 2010. It is a magnificent achievement considering that during the past year we have closed the old database and launched a new one which required re-registration of all participants. Thank you all for these wonderful contributions, and for being so patient during the transition period. We have now most of the difficulties behind us.

All this shows that SITS is steadily growing as an instrument for participating centres in their development of treatment quality and research. With the new SITS database comes new possibilities: a more flexible SITS, where you can register all your stroke (and TIA) patients, using a minimal or a more detailed data entry form; special data entry forms for intravenous thrombolysis and intraarterial interventions. All these are optional, each centre decides which categories of patients to register, and whether to use a minimal data set for iv thrombolysis or the usual version. At the moment, SITS includes the minimal version of the All Patients Protocol (APP) and the normal version of the Intravenous Thrombolysis Protocol (IVTP). Soon to come are the minimal version of the IVTP and the more extended version of the APP. The intraarterial thrombolysis protocol is now also under preparation.

As SITS participant you will be able to join the International Endovascular Interventions Registry and the Intracerebral Haemorrhage Registry. Another feature currently in preparation is the possiblity to enter unlimited amounts of observational data, such as blood pressure measurements, or blood glucose results. This helps centres to design their own internal protocols.

Several important publications have been released this year. You can find them listed under Resources at this homepage.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank you all and wish you a happy New Year. Special thanks to all Local and National Coordinators and to the SITS coordination centre staff who has been working very hard this year to establish the new database and new collaboration within the international regions Latin America and Asia.

Merry Christmas and Happy New year, 2011!
