Letter from SITS Chairman

Dear colleagues,

The year 2012 has almost come to an end and I would like to thank you all for your excellent contribution to the SITS network.

We have reached 80 000 patients in the registry, a remarkable milestone for the SITS network which was founded 11 years ago. The data has been extremely useful for our understanding of intravenous thrombolysis and other treatments.

The greatest achievement of this year has been launch of two new protocols: IVT-minimal version and All Patients Protocol – standard version. Thus, we hope that we can offer different and dynamic ways of data collection for SITS centres and users.

We are pleased to announce that SITS Thrombectomy Registry will be launched within couple of days and it will be open for all centres using this technique. You can read more about the Thrmobectomy Registry in this newsletter.

SITS-WATCH project is on-going and many countries are participating in this clinical trial. The first phase of the project will close in the end of January 2013. After the closure of the first phase, participating centres will define a plan for change to achieve the goal of a median DTN below 40 minutes.

Four new countries have joined SITS network this year: Japan, Egypt, USA and Cuba.

Currently there are on-going discussions with countries in Middle-East and North Africa about establishment of SITS-MENA (Middle-East, Northern Africa) network.

Finally, success of the SITS network would not be possible without your dedicated contribution. I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Thank you!
